When you become a mum, you automatically become busy, whether you have a 9-5 job or not. you just realize 24 hours is not enough, what to cook, what to buy for the kids, school meetings and school runs become priority, this makes a lot of mums loose their fashion and style sense, which can lead to so many negative things on the long run. (low self esteem, unable to fit in, hubby/partner not giving you attention etc)

If you neglect yourself you wont like the image that stares back at you from the mirror daily, but if you make a conscious effort to look good, you’ll definitely feel better.

The good news is that taking care of your image and style can be very easy and affordable, here are some tips.

1. Invest in Fashionable Basics

your wardrobe should have lots of basic pieces in neutral colors (at least 70%). Basic pieces are great because they never go out of fashion and you never get tired of them. And they’re very easy to combine. They form the backbone of your wardrobe.

What are the basics I’m talking about?

For looking stylish, invest in what I like to call Fashionable Basic Pieces (these are the current basic pieces and not the classic version).

Then combine with the pieces you already have in your wardrobe.

Here are some fashionable basics to try:

White or nude  shirt:
you can wear these with almost anything and everything, pants, Jeans, or skirts

Skinny jeans: own atleast a pair of skinny jeans as it skinny jeans makes you look instantly stylish and younger. A dark color is more formal and disguises large hips. Avoid wearing skinny pants with tight tops.

Leggings: Leggings are very comfortable and great to spend time with the kids. Combine them with a large feminine blouse for a casual-chic look or with a large t-shirt for a casual look. The best ones are black or gray.

Slim Pants: Slim pants are a great option for work. They are the new classic trousers.

2. Accessorize: Put on some accessories to add interest to basic pieces. Belts are great, they add style. You can also wear earrings, necklaces, bracelets or rings, choose whatever you like the most. If you want to invest in accessories, start with your bag and shoes,  then go for Jewelry.

3. Your Hair is KEY: Keep your hair in good condition – if you can’t go to the hairdresser regularly, one of the best time investments you can make for looking great is learning how to style your hair at home. Check out You tube, there are lots of free videos that teach how to style different types of hair – or ask your hairdresser.

4.Go for very simple makeup: If you don’t have much time or patience for makeup just apply concealer on the dark areas of your eyes. It instantly makes you look well rested. You can also add bronzer and/or blush, black mascara and you’re ready to go. Or you can also apply some lip gloss or lip moisturiser. And if you want more coverage, try tinted moisturiser. It’s very easy to apply and it gives you a healthy glow.

5.Choose the Right Trendy Pieces :If you like to buy trendy pieces, choose the ones that are easy to wear. Right now, try coloured skinny jeans or high- top sneakers. They are fun, very easy to wear and they’re also comfortable to play with the kids. They also give you a very trendy look.

6. Colored jeans: colored jeans always gives an air of class, you can try wine, dark green or fuchsia pink for starters. wear with print or floral tops.

 Are you having fun yet?

Style is also about having fun! So have fun with your clothes, try new pieces, take some fashion risks! Show your personality. And if you’re walking down the street and get a criticizing look, be happy. That just means someone’s noticing and if he/she doesn’t like it, somebody else will!
